Maybe this is obvious, but April starts tomorrow. Today is the last day of the fundraising drive, so if you want a groovy thank-you gift, don’t delay!

Gosh what happened to “Zen”…you need a Zafu and a Zabuton to meditate? What’s next? A nice gong? Some special clothes? Tatami mats?

Really Zen-people why don’t you just meditate like everyone else, just sit on a chair – stop wanting to be so special and unique. Do you have special asses or something? Just get some chairs, they’re more cheap and you don’t need Zabutons then.

Or if you’re into it and really want it the Zen-way then do it really – be Zen. Did Buddha have a Zafu and a Zabuton? Bodhidharma…the first zen-guy…he was sitting on a stone!

It’s just ridiculous…”we’re soso zen…very special zen…elite meditation guys…we need all the japanese stuff here in the USA before we can even start to think about starting to meditate…not like youuuuuuu all other meditators who just sit on the floor or god forbid on a regular chair, screw you, you don’t even wear a kimono…haha”. – Get your head out there guys…cmon! A Zafu and a Zabuton to meditate…can you say that in a sentence without having to laugh out loud? Jesus!

Daniel pondered…
“Really Zen-people why don’t you just meditate like everyone else, just sit on a chair – stop wanting to be so special and unique. Do you have special asses or something? Just get some chairs, they’re more cheap and you don’t need Zabutons then.”

I can answer this.
According to Brad, if you are in anything less than half-lotus, it’s not zazen… ;)

This is kind of a weird post all around, let’s see…the group is moving locales but not the zafus and zabutons they were using? Or, Brad, in the dark of night, left L.A. with the old pillows and mats, planning to use them with a new group in Philly? Or, the old ones were must meditated out, busting at the seams from years of hardcore use? Or, too much sentimental value in the old gear, need a fresh start in a new space?

And a 24 hr fundraiser? That’s optimystical.

Fab prizes though, respect. Espesh the “private yoga class.”

Not a 24 hour fundraiser. The fundraiser was three weeks. This information has been on the DSLA website, email list, Facebook page and twitter stream for the duration but Brad posted this on the last day. I sent out a “last day” email yesterday, as well.

The zafus and zabutons at Hill Street belong to John Daishin Buksbazen and the Ocean Moon Sangha that meets there on Wednesday evenings.

As an April Fool’s present, I’ll leave the fundraising site up a little longer. It will come down by midnight, if not a little earlier.

1. mtto
mtto April 1, 2014 at 9:09 am

We moved because Hill Street Center raised the rent by A LOT and only gave us one month’s notice. The choices were to choke the group financially over the months to come, or try to raise the money for zafus & zabutons and move.

There was also the hippie dance band that started playing next door on Saturday mornings a few years back, accompanied by some kind of ecstatic yelling practice. I can sit with almost anything, but a big point of the group is to provide a place for people new to meditation to come and try it out in a safe supportive environment. AND the guitar player couldn’t make the changes to James Brown’s “Cold Sweat” which really pushed me to the limits!

Mumbles April 1, 2014 at 10:16 am

Well that all makes more sense now, too bad it wasn’t in the post. The band/ecstatic yelling sounds like something Mark does regularly in his living room. Mark, have you moved to L.A?

Remember though…you simply sit down and then wait till the bang rings. Doesn’t matter if you’re completely messy the whole time, just sit. You can not fail. Remember!

Brad

Maybe it was already part of your project or someone already talked about it.

The main character “Brad the Dude” could transform into the superhero “the (hung) rabbit” or “incarnation of the Force – Zen Master” personas.

Chroma key, and there are cheap solutions out there, allows for easy special effects.

You can show “the force” building “inside” of you (your belly becoming transparent to show it), being projected, you can show the thoughts in you head, memories, all in a B-movie atmosphere.

You can fly, become small as atoms, enter the blood flow, walk over mountains whatever.

Your target audience ranges from the young nerds to the aged ones, from SGs style girls to the steam punks to plain dudes who enjoy something delirious.

In the end Tv is just giving this from X-files to the majority of other program (then you have the “gossip” talk show thing).

I’m looking forwards to see the first installement!
WOAHH, some cheap, B-level, non plausible non-sense, sprinkled with “big meaningful” sentences … and boobs :) , just to laugh to the implausibility of the thing
… because
“Like a tiny drop of dew, or a bubble floating in a stream;
Like a flash of lightning in a summer cloud,
Or a flickering lamp, an illusion, a phantom, or a dream.”

“So is all conditioned existence to be seen.”

and have a good laugh with some todler (maybe better some boob-free episode)

Have some psycho ’60s hippy graphics episodes (yellow submarine etc), some metal punk ones, enter a child universe made of child drawings, oriental with thangkas motives.

Your brain is the limit!

Like to hear more of Skylar and Brad.

Daniel, Gautama recommended the roots of trees. I guess there were a lot of banyans in his part of India, and the weather was right. They do have some banyans down in L.A., but we’re talking about people who haven’t left home yet coming out to learn something about the senses that come forward in a “body-position challenge”. They could certainly bring them forward in a chair, if they were familiar with the particular senses and their relationship to posture and breath. But in general, I think the reason the folks come out to see what the Zen stuff is all about is because they aren’t familiar with the senses that come forward in a body-position challenge and their relationship to posture and breath. They are so familiar with sitting in a chair in ways that make sitting in a chair not a body-position challenge that this might not be the best way for them to discover what’s involved right now exactly where they are. ‘know what I mean?

I haven’t even read this comments section or the post. I don’t know who Daniel is.

I have been accused of being Daniel again.

Daniel, if you read this, could you tell Andy to shut the fuck up and stop saying I’m you? Is there a way you can prove I’m not you.

I seriously don’t want to post here anymore. I’m tired of all of you. I don’t even come on here often. I am abandoning Zen for money and my career.

I especially dislike boubi. I’m fine with everyone else, but boubi has a strong xenophobic/racist streak. I hope he dies in a car accident or something. We need less people like him. I genuinely hope everyone else does fine.

.

Bipolar psychopath “I’m tired of all of you” followed by “I’m fine with everyone else” and “I genuinely hope everyone else does fine”.

.

“I especially dislike boubi. …, but boubi has a strong xenophobic/racist streak. I hope he dies in a car accident or something. We need less people like him. ”

When you come to the point to hear that “We need less people like him” it would be wise to call the spychiatric ward because the subject could as easily take his own life as much as some one else.
Then you see on TV about some shooting spree at the mall or school… scary

Hey, Master of The Universe, you should take on the KKK since you hate so much exonophobic/racist people, send them a letter with a return address, white suprematists could be a good choide too.
Try also some latino gang, Marra13 … just tell them what you told me … but you don’t have the guts, you’re just a yellow belly, frustrated wannabe.

Do you have a sexual live or a life at all? Friends? Totaly alienated like the “joker”? just have a look at his face , do you see something similar in the mirror?
http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/zsXaIml7UO0/hqdefault.jpg

.

Try to relax, have a beer, i don’t know, jerk off … oh yeah … this you do already.
I don’t even try to tell you to find a human relationship … because you remember from the last time, still hurting , yeah?

” I am abandoning Zen for money and my career”
Right choice !

I do get the feeling, Cosmic, that you are throwing sharp objects up into the air without regard for where they might come down, when you talk about wishing harm to others. Myself, I try to be kind to spiders, in the hope that if I make it a habit I will be less likely to generate the response that willful malice generally produces in wild creatures. It’s really just a matter of observing my own health and well-being, to wish others the same; that’s been my experience.

I could be wrong.

I just don’t like it when people ignorantly insult my heritage.

I have a lot of pride in my culture. It may be pretty messed up right now, sure, but in the past, it had significant ups (e.g., 800-1200 AD with all its intellectual contributions and Safavid Empire).

I do not like being compared to Khomeini who was f’ed up, as I explained in my past argument.
