Tomorrow’s Zazen at the Hill Street Center will return to its usual scheduled time — 9:30 AM Saturday July 29, 2006. So show up! Dang it! We’ll have orange juice. See the link to your right or click on the title of this article for details.

The following day there’s a big Hare Krishna festival at Venice Beach. I’m gonna go watch that too if anyone’s interested. Maybe they’ll finally convert me…

I am an ex-Krishna gone Buddhist… I know you were speaking of this “conversion” as tongue-in-cheek, but in all seriousness, such a conversion would be a waste of your time and energy.

I never was a Hare Krishna, and though I admire it’s founder’s sincerity and compassion, I also think he was a patriarchal Hindu fundamentalist who naively left ISKCON in the hands of criminals, the insane, substance abusers, pedarasts, misogynists, theives, con artists, and drug dealers. Happily, a lot of reform went on and they largely cleaned up their act. But they are still Hindu fundamentalists. Still, I really like their chanting, their food, and I have long enjoyed the Bhagavad Gita and the Srimad Bhagavatam. There is much to commend those works, though I recommend looking at different translations and to take any ancient work that claims to be divinely revealed with a chunk of rock salt and a recognition that one of the roles of such works is to canonize a particular culture and social arrangement – a form of social idolatry. Anyway, I I am going to see if I can go down to the festival myself, as I will be in LA this weekend as a guest speaker at a Buddhists gathering in Granada Hills.

    Namu Myoho Renge Kyo,

I was wondering how my neighbour could save a fortune on her credit cards. Now I too have the secret.

Hey, landed on your blog, nice stuff. I found a cool new tool for our blogs… It helps get latest news for our keywords directly on to our blog. I added it on mine. Worked like a charm.
